Building Maintenance Technician & HVAC Program

Program Overview: The training program is an overview of basic skills for maintaining and managing interior/exterior of housing communities, and basic residential HVAC repair. Students will be shown how to perform general maintenance repairs, basic plumbing repairs, basic electrical repairs, basic appliance repair, and residential HVAC repair techniques. There will be computer-based curriculum activities, and Virtual training. The student will also qualify to take the EPA 608 Exam to obtain their EPA Certification. Students will also qualify to take the test and obtain their OSHA 10 certification.

What you get from this program

The skills to conduct routine inspections and preventative maintenance. The skills to handle basic home/facility repairs and maintenance. The skills to diagnose residential HVAC mechanical issues. Appliance repair. Minor structure repair as necessary. Comprehensive review of basic floor plan and building layout, and identify emergency shut-off of gas, water, and electrical. The ability to be safety conscious. Access to advanced VIRTUAL training for additional Facility & HVAC training.

Entry Requirements

Must attend JobTrain’s information orientation, be able to understand “work ethic” (pride in one’s work), have the confidence in completing a job or task; and troubleshoot problems in given a situation while maintaining a professional demeanor.

  • Must be 18 years or older
  • Must be eligible to work in the USA
  • HS Diploma / Equivalent (HSE/GED) US ONLY

Physical Requirements

May be required to lift 70 lbs., bend, kneel, and climb ladders. The student should take necessary precautions if sensitive to or allergic to fumes and chemical solutions.

During Program

Students must maintain a 90% attendance level. Maintain a passing grade of 70% or higher and demonstrate a basic ability to complete assigned hands on task. The candidate must have acquired a valid driver’s license, be drug and alcohol free to qualify for employment opportunities in the industry. This should be established before the program is complete.
