Digital Literacy Skills Online Classes
Program Overview: Gain practical, employable skills to help you succeed in the workforce. You will become familiar with commonly used software programs, online tools, and social media platforms. There are three classes, each with their own focus. You may take just one, two, or all three of these classes, in any order you wish. Classes consist of discussion, hands on learning, scenarios and exercises.
Introduction to Computers
Sessions:
- 11/25/2024 to 12/5/2024
Hours: 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with optional Friday lab from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Class length: 2 weeks

- Operating systems, Management & Customization
- Internet & the World Wide Web
- Safety & Ethics
- Improve your typing skills
- Networking & Communications
Google Apps and Social Media
Sessions:
- 12/9/2024 to 12/20/2024
Hours: 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with optional Friday lab from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Class length: 2 weeks
What you learn:
- Introduces social media platforms and digital tools that are common in the workplace
- Covers: Slack, Skype, LinkedIn and Facebook
- Learn the basics in G Suite (Google Workspace): Google Drive, Docs, Sheets and Slides
Microsoft Office Suite
Sessions:
- 9/30/2024 to 11/14/2024
- 1/6/2025 to 2/20/2025
Hours: 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with optional Friday lab from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Class length: 7 weeks
What you learn:
- Focuses on Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Excel
- Learn how to edit, format, share and print documents
- Navigate a spreadsheet and generate charts
- Manage a calendar
- Attach and send documents
About the Instructor – Michelle Rosenaur
Michelle is a former IT professional, specializing in database administration and development. In addition to teaching Digital Literacy at JobTrain, she helps out in the Resource Center. She also teaches relational database and business intelligence at UCSC Silicon Valley Extension in Santa Clara.
