For the past six years JobTrain has been a location for a very important program from the IRS, the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA), also known as Tax Aid.  Thanks to our own Natalie Tercero, JobTrain’s Youth and Supportive Services Manager, 24 volunteers worked for more than 2,100 hours to help over 1,300 people navigate the annual complexities of tax time.  Rolf Sester, Tax Site Coordinator, has done an outstanding job running this program.  Every year the number of people served and the amount of tax returns and credits has increased.  For the 2015 tax season, JobTrain was awarded a certificate for completing the most tax returns in San Mateo County.  Almost $1.8 Million Dollars was brought back to our community with over $700,000 of it through the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).  Other areas of focus were child care, small business, and education.
