About the Position

The Director of Development and Marketing (DDM) is responsible for creating and implementing strategies to meet budgetary and strategic goals that support the operations and sustainability of JobTrain. The ideal candidate will be a high energy individual with exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, excellent writing and verbal capabilities, and the ability to conceptualize and implement effective fundraising and marketing campaigns. The ideal candidate will have solid experience in key functional areas of development and marketing. The DDM leads a Development and Marketing Team of four other professionals, is a key member of JobTrain’s Management Team, and staffs the Development and Marketing Committee of the Board of Directors.

Responsibilities

• Create, implement and monitor strategic plans annually for successful fundraising and public relations.
• Lead D&M department in creation of stretch goals, objectives and action plan aligned with strategies.
• Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential individual supporters and corporate and foundation sponsors to achieve donor retention, renewal and upgrade.
• Cultivate and nurture relationships with the media and community leaders.
• Oversee and help prioritize the preparation of grant requests to private and government funders.
• Create and shepherd a planned giving campaign.
• Oversee and participate in fund raising and public relations activities, including research, writing, materials design and relationship-building.
• Provide timely and accurate reports.
• Develop and manage a motivated and productive development and marketing team.
• Be an active and contributing member of JobTrain’s management team.
• Serve as staff to the Board’s Development and Marketing Committee.
• Identify and capitalize on opportunities to increase agency visibility and elevate public image.
• Oversee the design and creation of presentation, branding and solicitation materials, including marketing collateral, website, social networks, newsletters and annual report.
• Evolve website use as a key tool in fundraising and marketing.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred
• Strongly prefer five+ years progressively challenging fund development and marketing experience or transferrable experience
• Excellent communication skills (oral and written)
• Superior organizational skills

Counselor - TEMPORARY Position

About JobTrain

JobTrain is seeking a Counselor to join its Adult Services department. JobTrain seeks individuals who understand the dynamics of a non-profit organization and client driven services, and have a commitment to empowering the working poor and underserved populations.

This position is funded through September, 2010. The Counselor is responsible for the case management of a training program. Their main responsibility is to make sure all enrollment requirements are completed, and that documentation is evident in the client’s file. Clients’ files must have hard copies of attendance records, eligibility documentation, progress reports, and counseling notes. In addition to providing comprehensive case management, the Counselor has to maintain client information in JobTrain’s ONE database. The success of JobTrain and its clients is determined by the quality of case management and how well it’s documented. The position also requires individuals to work with staff on special assignments and projects, assist with special events, and participate in functions hosted by JobTrain.

Work Schedule

This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position, and a regular schedule will be discussed and negotiated upon hire.

Duties - Develop working knowledge of:

1. Workforce Investment Act (WIA) policies & procedures
2. JobTrain’s ONE Database
3. Client flow at JobTrain
4. One-Stop services and operations
5. Issuing Peninsula Works membership cards
6. Conducting registration intakes for training

10. Representing JobTrain at events and speaking engagements promoting vocational training programs and services
11. Producing monthly reports detailing enrollments and completions

Qualifications

Experience: Experience in community-based or corporate career development and training or related field work; proven counseling strengths a plus.

Education: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, counseling/ psychology, social work, or other human services is preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the above.

Administrative Asst. Youth Services - TEMPORARY Position

About JobTrain

Located on the Menlo Park/East Palo Alto border, JobTrain is a private job-training center and accredited school (accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges - WASC). JobTrain offers an array of vocational training programs, and computer and ESL classes for in-school and out-of-school youth. Our vocational training classes, academic support, and employment readiness programs are primarily geared toward young people needing assistance with overcoming significant academic, career and personal challenges to be successful in school and work arenas. Funded by a combination of federal, state, and private-sector grants, JobTrain’s programs and services offer young people an array of opportunities to move forward with accomplishing the first steps toward their educational and career goals.

About the Position

This position is funded through September, 2010. The Administrative Assistant is a challenging and responsible administrative position that plays a vital role in maintaining records, correspondence, and other information and data for all of JobTrain’s youth programs. This position requires strong communication, office management, and computer skills. The Administrative Assistant position is full-time (40 hours per week) and reports to the Director of Youth Programs.

Duties

1. Maintain multiple databases and filing systems to track pertinent information about program participants, program collaborators, and other community and educational institutions.
2. Provide administrative support including data entry, photocopying, filing, and answering phones.
3. Create forms, brochures, and flyers detailing program activities and maintain adequate inventory of same.
4. Set up and maintain hard-copy filing system for all program participants.
5. Manage mailing lists and send out correspondence and publicity to program participants, program collaborators, community organizations, and educational institutions.
6. Collect documentation (forms, attendance sheets, notes, etc.) from program staff and compile it into required formats.
7. Complete purchase orders for supplies and other items needed for youth program activities and staff.
8. Interface with collaborating agencies, schools and other entities to help implement program goals and objectives.
9. Coordinate and/or facilitate appropriate training sessions, workshops, and special events for youth and assist other program staff with similar endeavors.
10. With the assistance of the Director of Youth Programs, collect program information from staff members and compile it into required formats for programmatic, statistical, and financial reports.
11. Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
12. Perform other related duties as needed.

Qualifications

Experience
Preferred: At least one year of prior experience working in a responsible administrative position, preferably in a nonprofit setting working with youth. Should be familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access), and type a minimum of 50 WPM.

Education
HS graduate required; an AA or BA degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.
Two years of experience can be substituted for educational requirements.

Other
Applicants should have excellent written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills and be detail-oriented. Experience working with youth from diverse economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds is a strong plus. Bilingual in Spanish a plus.

This position is funded through September, 2010. This Development Assistant provides administrative support for the Development department. The Development Assistant must have the ability to multi-task, set priorities, follow instructions, communicate clearly, function in a busy office, and operate a variety of computer programs. The Development Assistant will be trained in Raiser’s Edge fundraising software. This position is full-time (40 hours per week) and reports to the Director of Development & Marketing.

Intake Coordinator - TEMPORARY Position

About JobTrain

JobTrain is seeking an Intake Coordinator to join its Adult Services department. JobTrain seeks individuals who understand the dynamics of a non-profit organization and client driven services, and have a commitment to empowering the working poor and underserved populations.

This position is funded through September, 2010. JobTrain’s Intake Coordinator is one of the first points of contact for potential trainees. The Intake Coordinator provides the potential trainee with information about the services and programs offered by JobTrain to help them achieve their training goals. The JobTrain Intake Coordinator must have familiarity with One-Stop procedures, and will follow Workforce Development guidelines in order to ensure every client understands and meets enrollment requirements, and that the proper steps are taken so the client can transition to training or receive job search assistance. The scope of the job requires working closely with participants and Client Services staff to assure enrollment, completion and job placement.

Work Schedule
This is a full-time (40 hours per week) position, and a regular schedule will be discussed and negotiated upon hire.

Duties

1. Conducts intakes (assessment conferences) with individuals to determine if eligible for services. Provides information relative to desired training
2. Operates computer and standard office equipment; enters registration into JobTrain’s ONE database
3. Accurately explains programs and services to clients, and answers questions. Reviews and completes intake requirements
4. Issues One-Stop memberships and makes intake referrals
5. Monitors One-Stop client activities
6. Answers telephone, handles inquiries, routes visitors and calls, and provides general information
7. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with all participants, community service agencies, schools, employers and co-workers
8. Attends staff team meetings and training sessions as requested
9. Makes recommendations for program improvements
10. Other related duties as required by the Adult Services Department

Qualifications

Education: High School diploma required – an AA degree from an accredited college is strongly preferred. Two years’ experience can be substituted for educational requirements.

Basic Skills Instructor - TEMPORARY Position

About JobTrain

Located on the Menlo Park/East Palo Alto border, JobTrain is a private, nonprofit job-training center and accredited school (accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges - WASC). JobTrain offers an array of vocational training programs, and computer and ESL classes for area residents. Since 1986, JobTrain has operated an after-school program for high school students called the School After School for Successful Youth (SASSY) program. This program, which is operated in collaboration with the Sequoia Union High School District (SUHSD) and Palo Alto Unified School District (PAUSD), is a youth development program that offers vocational skills training, academic support, case management, and life skills workshops for young people who face significant academic and personal challenges with graduating from high school and transitioning into the next stage of their lives. The program is now being enhanced with a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, Community Technology Centers initiative, which seeks to support students who are not making sufficient academic progress at their high schools.

About the position

This position is funded through September, 2010. The Basic Skills Instructor will motivate students to improve their proficiency with basic skills (primarily English and Math) and encourage them to strive for higher levels of academic achievement. S/he is responsible for developing, presenting, and explaining techniques and information that are designed to help motivate students to enroll in post-secondary education or otherwise map out a plan for career growth and development. S/he will also be responsible for overseeing students’ progress using computerized basic skills (English & math) instructional software. The Basic Skills Instructor position is part-time, 20 hours/week and takes place during afternoon and early evening hours Monday through Thursday during the school year (September through June) and during daytime hours Monday through Friday during the summer months (June through August). This position reports to the Director of Youth Programs.

Duties

1. Prepare and implement lesson plans, activities, and pre/post tests to achieve program objectives.
2. Work with JobTrain’s Assessment Center staff to provide a range of assessment and testing services for students, including instruments measuring academic and technology skills, as well career interest inventories.
3. Provide instruction through assignments, projects, group activities, or other appropriate methods.
4. Coordinate activities and class content with instructional and line staff.
5. Oversee students’ use of and progress with computer aided instructional software modules.
6. Monitor and evaluate students’ progress with completing curriculum elements.
7. Monitor classroom attendance and submit daily attendance reports.
8. Attend meetings and training sessions as required.
9. Assist with coordinating and supervising field trips and related component activities.
10. Assist other youth programs staff members on projects as needed.
11. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education – Preferred: BA degree in a related subject matter from an accredited college or university.

Experience – Preferred: At least 2 years of prior classroom teaching experience in a related subject matter.

About the Position

The Youth Counselor is a challenging and responsible full-time position that monitors the provision of job training, pre-employment/work readiness skills, work-based learning opportunities, and other program services for youth who have typically struggled in traditional educational environments and in the world of work. The Youth Counselor will work with other organizations and professionals to counsel teenage youth and young adults around setting educational and career goals, overcoming personal and academic barriers, and assisting and encouraging them with setting and following through with their long term educational and career goals.

Duties

1. Recruit and enroll young men and women into JobTrain’s training programs and other related activities.
2. Assess students’ skills, aptitudes, and interests using information from school records, test scores, career interest profiles, and other relevant instruments to help them successfully attain program objectives, including completion of training classes as well as placement into employment and/or continuing education.
3. Monitor progress of youth in program components and facilitate/coordinate access to necessary support services and community resources.
4. Interview and evaluate readiness status of young men and women for enrollment into education & training programs as well as service learning opportunities, internships, and paid employment.
5. Work cooperatively with other JobTrain staff to design, coordinate, and implement assignments and projects for youth that help reinforce positive decision-making around educational and career goals.
6. Help coordinate and/or facilitate appropriate training sessions, workshops, field trips, and recognition events for youth.
7. Maintain and update detailed, accurate student files and program data (printed and electronic) in compliance with programmatic and funding requirements.
8. With the assistance of the Director of Youth & Evening Services, collect student/program information and compile it into required formats for programmatic, statistical, and other reports.
9. Attend staff meetings and training sessions as required.
10. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Experience
Preferred: at least one year of prior experience working with youth from diverse economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds and a strong passion to help empower young people to make positive changes in their lives.

Education
BA/BS from an accredited college or university with a major in counseling or other human services field is preferred; two years of experience may be substituted for educational requirements.
